Campsite near Figeac, the Cité de Champollion

Figeac, a must-see in the Lot, the heights of the Ségala.

Less than 30 minutes from Le Bois de Sophie, our campsite in the Lot, discover Figeac, a historic town open to today's world Today, Figeac is an attractive town, anchored in the contemporary world. It boasts cutting-edge economic activities, a young population and a dynamic cultural scene. Since the first half of the 20th century, this former small rural town has become an industrial town thanks to the aeronautical company Ratier, which specialises in the design and manufacture of aircraft equipment. This company, the largest in the Lot, is the main factor in the town's vitality. This aeronautical activity has made Figeac the smallest town in France to have a University Institute of Technology.

Figeac and the Champollion Museum

With 10,000 inhabitants, Figeac is the Lot's second-largest town, part of the dynamic crescent stretching from Corrèze to Aveyron. The town grew up on fertile land, watered by the Célé and already crossed by the Roman road from Limoges to Rodez. Two squares at the foot of Le Puy, Place Champollion, the Griffon house is the oldest in the town (12th century). At the bottom of the square, an imposing Hôtel Médiéval displays its characteristic 14th-century façade.

At the same time, the implementation of an ambitious cultural policy, of which the Champollion Museum - Les Écritures du Monde is the best example, reinforces the image of an atypical town, respectful of its past and resolutely turned towards its future.
